Luceafarul: The Legend of the Evening Star is a theatrical dance performance based on a famous Romanian poem, Luceafarul by Mihai Eminescu, in the award-winning translation by Adrian George Sahlean. Directed by Terrence Montgomery, featuring original music by Ion Ionescu and choreography by Raluca Georgiana and Eric Ortega, Luceafarul tells the story of the impossible love between the Evening Star and a beautiful young princess. Despite their passion, the two are forced to accept that the barriers separating their worlds cannot be transcended. Their doomed love-story touches upon the universal feeling of human longing for the ideal relationship. A production of the West Side YMCA, with a grant from Romanian Satellite. [Etching by Traian Filip Alexandru]

The performance opens with a companion piece also directed by Terrence Montgomery, The Three Treasures Singing Harp, an adaptation of a tale from 1001 Arabian Nights. Adapted and scored by Alyssa Reit.

Tickets: $15 in advance, $20 at the door. Call 866-811-4111, 212-352-3101 or order online here.
