Procter & Gamble (P&G) company begins this month the construction of the second factory in Romania, at Urlati, Prahova County, Mediafax informs. The initial investment in the hair care products factory from Urlati rose to USD 50 M and it will double until 2010. P&G intention is to have a final value of the investment in excess of USD 100 M.

The production unit will be built on a land from Ploiesti Industrial Park. This surface will assure the space for a possible expansion of the production capacity.

Daniel Myers, production vice president of the American group Procter & Gamble, declared that there were four reasons which determined them to build the factory at Urlati, in Romania. One of the reasons of the investment is that P&G already has another factory in Romania, at Timisoara, whose evolution was a success. In this way, the factory had the occasion to get acquainted with the way of working of the Romanians. A second determining factor in the choice of Romania, was the strategic location of our country, which allows the distribution of products in eastern Europe. There are also two university centres close to Urlati, Bucharest and Ploiesti, whose graduates can work in the factory, and the group has already received support from the local authorities for this investment. Myers added that some of P&G suppliers have announced their intention to come close to the American group from Urlati. The American group Procter & Gamble is present in Romania, working in the sector of production, since 1995, when it purchased the detergent factory from Timisoara.
