OCTOBER 11/05 - Dorothea Fleiss, Cris Ciobanu, and Nicolae Suciu, three Romanian artists, contributed tiles to the international "Tile Project" at the Pauline A. Shaw School in Boston. Two of their works are seen at right.

The Shaw School is the only "Tile Project, Destination: The World" link installation in Transcultural Exchange's home base, and the first U.S. project sponsored by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Office (UNESCO) since the United States re-entry into UNESCO. Mayor Thomas Menino of Boston officially opened the Shaw School's tile project on October 11, 2005.

Program coordinator, Mary Sherman, and colleagues have worked over a four year period on the Tile Project to which 100 artists have contributed their works. Their works will be put into 22 permanent locations worldwide including the Shaw School in Boston -- and in Spring 06 one in Bacau, Romania.
